Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
